How many students are there in each summer sailing camp?
We operate to a MAXIMUM of 6 boats to every safety boat and a MAXIMUM of 10 students to every instructor. However ratios are usually a lot less students to each instructor.
We have a minimum 4 students to one instructor ratio.

How long does it take to pass each level?
When reading through the CANSail levels it is important to note that from level 2 onwards it becomes more usual for students to take longer than one week to complete each level. The following is a rough guide and every student is different –
Level 1 – 1 to 2 weeks
Level 2 – 2 to 3 weeks; after level 1 completion
Level 3 – 2 to 5 weeks; after level 2 completion
Level 4 – 4 to 8 weeks; after level 3 completion
Level 5 – a full season with race training and competition.

How do I know what Level to choose for my student?
If the student has not completed CANSail level 1, sign up for that Level. If it becomes apparent to the instructor that Level 1 is not appropriate, adjustments can be made. if they have already attended a camp and you're unsure of the level they ma have passed contact our Sailing School Manager, we hold records of all passes over the last 3 seasons.

What boat will be used for the class?
We use three different boats: the Optimist, the Taz, it's big brother the Topaz and the 420. The boat that will be used for any specific class will be dependent on the Level and student age.

How can I ensure the school has qualified instructors?
All of our dinghy camps are in line with the CANSail dinghy training syllabus and taught by CANSail registered instructors so you can be sure in the knowledge that safety is the number one priority.
